Syringes and its parts: What ?

Syringe and its parts

Introduction

Syringes are those equipment which are used mainly for administration of drugs into the human or other animal body. Syringes are sometimes also called injections. Syringes are basically one time use, it means it cannot be reusable. Syringes are used in hospitals, medical institutions, veterinary areas, and many more.

Parts of Syringes

Syringes consist of basically 4 parts :- Plunger, Barrel, Plain tip and needle.

PLUNGER : It is the back part of Syringes which is mainly made up of plastic. Plunger inserted into a barrel with a proper vacuumed manner. With the help of Plunger we control the amount of dose of drug to be administered which is ejected from the needle tip. Plunger pushes the drug solution which fills into the barrel and then the solution goes toward the needle portion.

BARREL : It is similarly like a barrel in the gun in which the bullet is loaded. In the case of syringes, the barrel is a hollow cylindrical structure where the drug solution is filled. In the barrel there is marking of measurement by which we can easily fill the specific amount of drug solution in the barrel. “Rubber” is present in the end tip of the barrel to create a proper vacuum.

PLAIN TIP : It is the ending part of the barrel in which the needle should be fixed. It is the portion/ point from where the drug solution should be ejected out, but not go into the body directly. Because after the Plain tip there is portion of needle, through which drug inserted into our body.

NEEDLE : Needle mainly contain 3 parts = Lumen, Bevel and Shaft

  • Lumen = It is a hollow structure through which a liquid drug solution passes and is administered into a needle. It is a hollow structure part of bevel
  • Bevel = It is a tilt angled shape in the tip of the needle and in which a hollow structure is present through which a drug solution eject out.
  • Shaft = It is an elongated part the needle which connected with plain tip.
